You can select world events as work around waypoints to get in-game navigation to various places. But you can’t deselect them! You either have to complete that event or select another event at which point that will become your active beacon. Or you can quit free play. It is sooooo stupid.

The map is BIG and it has impassable mountains which makes it impossible to even fly in a straight line to get where you want most of the time. You have to weave around and go up and down in elevation to get anywhere.
