Oh no, the weird author scammers have found me. They love my indie release apparently.

5) Thornfield Hall by Jane Stubbs

This is a thoughtful retelling of Jane Eyre from Mrs Fairfax's perspective which offers Bertha, Grace and Mrs Fairfax a very different ending. I really enjoyed it and it was one of those reimaginings that makes you re-see aspects of the original novel.

4) Jane and Edward by Melodie Edwards

This is a modern romance retelling of Jane Eyre. I was really pleasantly surprised by this one. It really thinks about the adaptation, confronting some aspects of the original text and thinking about modern equivalencies. It's also just enjoyable!

3) Let Me In: The Brontes in Bricks and Mortar by Ann Dinsdale and Sharon Wright

Non-fiction this time. It explores the Brontes' lives through places associated with them and their family from Ireland to Cornwall. Interesting and engaging.

2) The Wife in the Attic by Rose Lerner

A dark sapphic Gothic retelling of Jane Eyre (and Castle Rackrent) with a Jewish protagonist as the governess. It is well-told, well-researched and doesn't shy away from complexity.

While I'm here... some of my favourites!

1) What Souls Are Made Of by Tasha Suri

This is a remix of Wuthering Heights which imagines the period after Heathcliff leaves the Heights (and Cathy is left there). It offers a different ending and explores the histories of South Asians in Britain.
