Cowane's Hospital in Stirling. Many years ago I read that when they were building up in this part of the town, they uncovered a Roman grave carved into the volcanic bedrock, now in a cellar around here. I've never been able to find the reference or building.

Can't escape Romans at Stirling Castle. These carvings, the Stirling Heads were hung on the ceiling of the Great Hall. These are the Roman Emperors. Marcus Aurelius in the foreground, Titus in the middle and Aurelius again.

Back from a day excavating near Stirling in search of a possible Roman site. Found some interesting features but unlikely to be Roman but we've got another area to explore next year. Here's one of the test trenches

Have spent the past couple of days lecturing on a cruise ship. Spent half the morning gripping onto the lecture then a table as the ship rocked heavily in the sway. Here's a wee shot of Staffa and Fingal's Cave

A surviving ditch from a Roman camp at Burnswark in southern Scotland. The camp was possibly part of seigeworks attacking an indigenous settlement on top of Burnswark Hill
