The article really takes a "business viability" angle on the "this is a creative hobby thing" activity. Like yeah, of course if you can get a tip jar from your actual plays, more power to you, but Hollywood productions should not be how we assess our approach to sharing what we love to do.

If you can't (or simply don't want to) support parts of the ttrpg hobby with money, supporting a game with your time, attention and discussion is super valuable. A project getting more eyes on it (and people playing it as a result) because of you can be more impactful than any single purchase.

If we use the term's original meaning, no a Rules Lawyer does not help a game, because they derail a game with rules arguments. If we use the bleached version of the term, then no, a Rules Lawyer helps keep the game moving by helping the table with rules.

More recently, the term "Rules Lawyer has undergone semantic bleaching. To many people, it now mean "anyone who is well-versed in a game's rules."

Originally, it meant "someone who argues with the GM about the semantics and precedents of game rules to get an advantage of some kind." Hence the *lawyer* bit.

"Rules Lawyer" has two meanings. 🧵

As a person who's run PbtA games poorly and (eventually) run them kinda good, every time I play a PbtA-inspired game in duet I go back and say, "ahh, so that's what they meant with this GM move I see popping up across a dozen games."

I mainly watch it for the "improv prompt" shows, Game Changer and Make Some Noise. Very Important People and Smartypants are also pretty good. And I'll watch Dimension 20 when they run non-DnD games.
It's a large library of good content for a low price. I would try for it for a few months at least.

There is so much art available to use for free, that if a person is turning to LLM I have to assume they either dgaf about the ethics or they didn't do any research. I've made two zine-length tttrpgs with entirely public domain art. Here's one: rollforthings.itch.io/embers-of-mo...

Yeah, getting mad about stuff like this is like yelling at clouds. Maybe not everyone needs a book to explain what a ttrpg is, but there's a non-zero chance its audience includes newcomers to the hobby, who benefit from the added clarity.

I submitted a cute fantasy duet in Dragon Keeper, and a '90s beat-em-up-inspired game in BRAWLER: The Pummeling.
