When introducing people to the wider #ttrpg hobby outside of #dnd, it's important to remember that people don't know what they don't yet know, and they shouldn't be shamed for not knowing it yet. Instead of shaming them, get excited about the new stuff they're about to contact.

Because for each thing "everyone knows" by the time they're adults, every day there are, on average, ten thousand people in the US hearing about it for the first time. If I make fun of people, I train them not to tell me when they have those moments. And I miss out on the fun. A: "Diet coke and mentos thing? What's that?" B: "Oh man! Come on, we're going to the grocery store." A: "Why?" B: "You're one of today's lucky ten thousand."
