The only naturalization ceremony I ever attended was my own. I was emotional enough that day, but there were others being sworn in who were openly weeping out of happiness, relief, and yes, a deep sense of love for their adopted country.

We chose to become American and that should be enough.

It also suffered from the usual Kim Eun-sook drama problem of not having enough plot for its enormous length. There’s a draggy middle when nothing happens and everyone just walks around aimlessly. This is annoying in a 16-episode drama. In a 24-episode drama, it’s an interminable amount of nothing.

#MrSunshine has a lot going for it. The cinematography and costuming is gorgeous. Lee Byung-hun is terrific as Eugene Choi, an unusual character in period kdrama. But the FL was deeply annoying and a very unsubtle personification of Korea. After about 13 episodes, I just ran out of steam. 🤷🏻‍♀️
