Suffice it to say that it’s a simple question with not-so-simple answers!

But an unequal temperament, in which fifths are tempered unequally (typically some pure, others not), will yield keys with distinctive aural chacteristics. This is unlike equal temperament, where the fifths (and all the resultant intervals) are equally tempered.

It’s just that some keys are unplayable in meantone, depending on the notes chosen. If one tunes G♯, then A♭ is out of bounds. But an E-major triad in 1/4-comma meantone will sound the same as a C-major one, albeit it at it different frequency.

Most of the answers had to do with ambitus, technical considerations, and key character. Regarding the latter, one of the more thoughtful answers blurred the distinction between meantone and unequal temperaments. Keys in the former all sound the same, while keys in the latter sound distinctive.

Frankly, I don’t mind their disabling comments. I just wish they’d do a better job of resolving issues.

Yes, they have. But they’ve cured dandruff by decapitation.

What do they get from the city when they file a ticket about a bike lane obstruction? As someone who has filed dozens of such tickets, I can confidently say not too damn much. So yeah, I blame the city.

Fair point, but I think that the risk of being insulted by Jibjub is small potatoes compared to the overall ineffectiveness of A2FixIt. As @a2peter.bsky.social said, A2FixIt is broken.

As far as comments are concerned, it’s not just arguing that they’re shutting down, it’s actual discussion about (in)actions taken that they’re shutting down.

I think I finally scared Gene off!

But they *do* care about closing tickets as quickly and with as little effort as possible. Allowing anyone to reopen tickets made their lives more difficult. They haven’t offered an explanation, so speculation abounds.

Yes, you can comment on, and presumably also reopen, your own tickets. FWIW, my own view is that they don’t mind people arguing. They ignored my request to disable comments in the Vehicles Parked in Bike Lane long ago.

Recent issue on A2FixIt regarding beg buttons at Packard and Stadium. City gave an unsatisfactory response and closed the ticket twice, and has since disabled all commenting on the app! seeclickfix.com/issues/20412...
Crosswalks
At the crosswalk at Packard and Stadium, to cross stadium, you must push the button for the walk sign to display. Is it possible for the walk sign to display even if no one has pushed the button? This...

Third Thursdays at Hatcher are great, with open houses in the Asia Library, Clark Library, International Studies, and Special Collections. Last month was Halloween-themed. I got my picture taken with Hannibal Lecter’s straitjacket and mask, part of the Jonathan Demme papers in Special Collections.
