I simply cannot understand why a Labour chancellor and government cannot this is not only a logistical issue but a profoundly democratic issue. The ‘peoples’ justice which juries represent should not be sacrificed due to government failure to invest in the CJS. 3/

There is something profoundly undemocratic about having a professional
state paid judiciary replacing juries. The former are mainly from a certain class whereas a jury are in touch with ordinary life to a broader degree. They understand the possible problems and motivations.2/

Having government paid judicial officials dispensing justice is asking for our CJS to be devalued in the eyes of the country and the world.. it will impact on the impartiality perception of British Justice. It must be opposed. The CJS needs investment, not these awful measures.2/

There are never direct parallels because history doesn’t repeat, but it certainly rhymes. Farage and reform are very dangerous. It is the duty of all decent people to put the defeat of Farage as a political and historic necessity. We have been warned by his contemporaries. 3/

I’m still friends with people I knew at school at the age of 17 & none of them behaved like a “nasty little shit & racist”. People don’t change that much & certainly Farage shows no inclination other than to support populist far right politics which suggests he hasn’t.2/

Juries refused to convict people in the past for trivial offences which were subject to capital punishment and that pressure therefore changed the law. Also, they refused to convict the whistle blowers telling the truth about government such as Ponting over sinking the Belgrano
