So you could not have a place that serves beer only, but you could have a burger place that also serves beer. It seems like a distinction without a difference. I get they don't want people getting drunk and rowdy at a dive bar in a residential neighborhood...but like what are we doing here?

Interesting. I had wondered that. How is ancillary defined? Does providing bags of chips or peanuts in what is otherwise a bar qualify as a restaurant? My hope would be that a "mini brewery" would be allowed under what just passed but perhaps not.

It would have also allowed operations after 10pm. But yes I’m also confused about some of the discourse on it. Seems like small potatoes and you could still have a cafe/brewery/restaurant with alcohol in any neighborhood?

I think Chuck Marohn talks about it in this podcast. Specifically mentions Muskegon, Michigan. www.strongtowns.org/journal/2025...

Got it. Thank you!

Thanks for your great work this session! I know it’s small potatoes compared to everything else today but are we going to get a concurrence vote on HB 1096 (Lot splitting)?

Screen shot from the bill text. Practically speaking 2030 for Seattle, although Vancouver and Spokane end of next year!

I thought it happens at the midway 5-year checkin in 2029

Is the elevator bill SB 5156 in trouble? Doesn’t have a vote scheduled in House housing committee.

I joined a year ago mainly to vote in pedestrian friendly candidates. Is there another action to take?
March 12, 2025 at 6:27 PM
It’s on the next batch
February 25, 2025 at 6:36 PM
The bill is on the Senate schedule to be voted on today!
February 25, 2025 at 6:27 PM
Something to consider is this kinda bill could be deemed “necessary to implement the budget” and may not be subject to the fiscal committee cutoff this week
February 25, 2025 at 3:21 AM
Wow it’s a huge deal for housing if we get the Sonics back then! 🤣

Wasn’t that the Biden theory? Go back to normal? Be a good example? We have been losing this fight for a decade. Blue states ban gerrymandering while red states go full hog.

I agree the alternative ends badly too though…

FYI not sure how to describe this but really bad audio issue on apple podcast. Like maybe you uploaded unedited audio file? You can’t hear Mark or Sandeep and you have a few minutes of tech troubleshooting at the beginning.
February 4, 2025 at 1:36 AM
Yeah it was totally messed up on Apple Podcasts. Seems like the uploaded the unedited file maybe too?
February 4, 2025 at 1:35 AM
I like it fine enough but I’m not sure there is a computer on earth that can have it run well once your city gets big enough to do the cool transit and urbanism stuff
January 13, 2025 at 1:42 AM
Might need a HB 1110 follow up (and a TOD bull) just for Seattle…force City to enact a pro housing plan. Genuinely high stakes for rest of state if Seattle doesn’t step up on housing.
January 6, 2025 at 8:36 PM
Ok awesome. Thanks for the explanation!
January 3, 2025 at 10:08 PM
I’m confused. I thought they already did this? HB 1293?
January 3, 2025 at 9:46 PM
Definitely less overall although it’s neighborhood specific

The Tern line seems like the best all around City bike. They seem really popular in Seattle.
