"Men must learn that in presiding over the Church, we are dealing with human hearts, that individual rights are sacred, and the human soul is tender. We cannot run the Church as we would a business."

A lesson from the TikTok Affair should be that bipartisan efforts to preserve U.S. national security are vulnerable to the incoming president getting bought off and switching sides for his own personal and political benefit. Not great!

You won't be any better at fighting what's coming if you burn yourself out and spend all your time feeling bleak and hopeless, and the people telling you that it's all despair now probably don't have anyone's best interest at heart.

More than 100 years after its initial review that blamed Black men, the Dept. of Justice just released its report on the 1921 Tulsa race massacre

The report says the attack “was so systematic and coordinated that it transcended mere mob violence”

people say “you need to start living in the real world” but they forget that the real world includes lupines and lightning bugs and ginger beer and starlight and sea coasts and Renoir paintings and Rachmaninoff’s piano concertos and fog banks and foxes playing in snow.

Please make sure to read this from Jim Jones, #Idaho! I wish the outcome of Prop 1 would have been different…but there is still a lot of good that came from this grassroots campaign!

Giving thanks for those volunteers who took on the party bosses on Prop 1
Even though Prop 1 lost, there is much to be thankful for in this Thanksgiving season.

These, collectively, have revolutionized health, reduced morbidity & mortality, increased life expectancy & quality of life for many countries globally. Developing nations need support too.

AND we need to STOP giving leeway to people & organizations who actively undermine scientific progress.

I can never understand why children's books get left out of "great book" lists. The books we call "children's books" are really books written for an audience that includes children, but excludes no-one. They are books for EVERYONE - and if you exclude them, you miss the most important books of all!

I know GBBO stopped doing country-themed episodes after that disastrous Mexican Week debacle but I think they should’ve gone the other direction. Really lean in and fuck up everyone’s culture. Just like they did for the entire 15th-21st centuries only this time we get to laugh at them for it

When we survive this dark chapter and there are sane people back in charge, can we agree that education and specifically civics education to ensure an informed, educated citizenry will be a high priority?

Spending a month on Bluesky has created a whole new model of a fight we need to be having right now. Not liberal vs. conservative or whatever, but respect vs manipulation.

I am tired of being manipulated everywhere I go. That’s why I like it here, I feel like I’m in charge for once.

The Trump ordeal has made one thing clear.

Too many of our checks and balances rely on norms, traditions and the honor code.

It works when those elected into power are people of honor and integrity who respect our norms and traditions.

Elect a lifelong criminal and it all goes sideways.

Note: it's good to appreciate your partner for the things they do for you/your family. It's not good to make the things they do for you/your family the limit of their existence in your head.

I believe that asylum seekers should be able to find refuge and that allowing them in will help us be a better place. I believe that our immigration policy should provide paths to citizenship. I believe that everyone who works here should have legal status so that we can minimize their exploitation.

I think one of the issues with chasing Trump voters is that doing so inevitably cedes important, sometimes basically factual, policy questions.

As an example, chasing the “border security” question meant that people by and large did not question the “our borders are overrun” narrative.
