X rollback of the location feature reveals so much, much more than it just being a “location” feature. Data is nothing without an ordinate axis such as time and/or LOCATION. This feature didn’t just happen overnight, and isn’t exclusive to X nor does X have an obligation to not sell it.

The question isn’t why the X account location feature has been rolled back. The twofold question is for how long this feature has been available for data mining and what was done with said data. The fact that it works comes second to the since when does it work and for who it worked.
