Just a reminder that the Maine primary is seven months away, there are eight other Democrats running in the primary, and filing hasn't closed. Plenty of time to review the platforms of people running, encourage someone you like to run, and/or run yourself.

pretty remarkable that Costco has more of a spine in fighting for the rule of law than many major universities and fancy law firms

Get Blackwater Oyster Boy out of the race. This post about him running around on his now-wife is from 2024. It’s even around when they got married ffs.

I reposted this crossing out the names & pics because this is supposed to be a private group & whoever originally posted broke their privacy rules.

all the Good Government/Cutting Waste libertarian-lite shit has aged horrendously, until we finally got to unconstitutional recissions and a legislature that abolished itself
Don Young's bridge to nowhere in Alaska was a massively better use of taxpayer money than funding groypers to post stuff or whatever it is GOP reps do these days.

there is no legitimate definition of the term "democracy" under which maps like these are "democratic." this level of stovepiping is banana republic shit. this is effectively no different from stuffing a ballot box
Indiana Republicans have unveiled their proposal to re-gerrymander the congressional map & expand their current 7-2 majority to 9-0.

The Dem-held 1st would flip to Trump+12 & the 7th to Trump+19. All 7 GOP seats would be at least Trump+18.

I calculated the new Indiana Gerrymander based on different elections. It's a R9-0D map in 2024, but the 1st District becomes competitive if the nationwide results get closer:

1st District:

2024 Pres.: 🔴 R+12
2020 Pres.: 🔴 R+4

Democrats will also have an incumbent running in that district.

U.S. Catholic bishops recently banned trans care throughout the church's sprawling healthcare systems.

@davidforbes.bsky.social delves into how this fits the institution's long history of hatred and abuse, a direction that has not changed despite its recent p.r. shifts.

We should let Dan Osborn cook. We should not make every Dem Dan Osborn. Dan Osborn being an independent loosely aligned with the Dems is helpful in both directions!

I think the key difference is between "let Dan Osborn cook" and "Everyone should be Dan Osborn"
a kind of funny thing about this thesis is that it's basically the same as the whole Ygelsias et al. 'moderate on cultural issues to win' thing with the serial numbers filed off. but for some reason this is based economic populism and not pathetic centrist selling out

If an instructor wants to impose content based instructions to focus essays on science, then they should. But my read is that this is busy work intended to make sure assignments are read and thought about and little more. So, the prompt was open ended and sloppy and invited this. 🤷‍♂️

People catastrophizing about a precedent where no one can mark anything down anymore for being wrong when the real precedent is trans people not being able to do literally any job without an army of bigots launching a harassment campaign against their employer.
a lot of people debating the merits of that dogshit essay meanwhile the girl’s mom is retweeting demands to ban all trans people from teaching at any level. it’s forest for the trees shit

I don't think electing Republicans to the Senate because we decline to support guys who agree with us on 50-80% of stuff is worth losing for because they're independents, when we routinely support guys like this who are labeled Democrats.

Like the difference between "run Jon Tester (D)" and "run Jon Tester (I)" is not a matter of principle, actually! And frankly I think "don't run Jon Tester because he has bad views on a number of issues" is a stupid approach.

In fact, to the extent Jon Tester (I) can just run on his own brand and not force Dems to dilute their brand to make it capacious enough for Indie Tester, it requires a whole lot less principles-shedding.
