I too ventured out of my normal and headed to 17th via reservoir and Elbow paths and was also surprised. It seems all the Parks pathway crews have decided to leave 3-4 cm base of snow? Which means they were soft but not quite terrible. Residential blue sign routes were horrible.

We don't get pancake ice on the Bow in Calgary. It is just starting to develop some ice along slow shoreline.
I will be content with the bubbles, bubbles and gurgles of Fish Creek where it has openings in its ice.
