Every day cyclist - its how I get around, not a statement but I don't have a death wish so fight for safer spaces for anybody not in a car.
Volunteer in Fish Creek and other conservation orgs because I love nature.
Maker of Dinoramas.
Fiercely Canadian
Today we were enjoying the crazy winds of Waterton and saw a bird flying around in gusts that were trying to knock us over...
I eventually got a snapshot of it on the ground.
Can you find the snow bunting?

Take a rock, add a lake, wind and freezing temps. Get nature's art ...

I too ventured out of my normal and headed to 17th via reservoir and Elbow paths and was also surprised. It seems all the Parks pathway crews have decided to leave 3-4 cm base of snow? Which means they were soft but not quite terrible. Residential blue sign routes were horrible.

We don't get pancake ice on the Bow in Calgary. It is just starting to develop some ice along slow shoreline.
I will be content with the bubbles, bubbles and gurgles of Fish Creek where it has openings in its ice.

I do love winter scenery. Cycling to pick up my car from the mechanic today and view this halo almost the entire way. It briefly created a sundog so I had to stop and capture it

Found a phone in the snow on my bike to yoga.

This is my PSA to tell you that you should put some kind of contact info on your lock screen and setup an emergency contact so that it is possible to contact you or somebody you trust to get your phone back.

The last leaf on the tree. What do you see? Is it strength to hold on so long? Persistence? Stubbornness? Confidence to not follow the masses? Or is it just afraid to let go?

Hey #yycbike, anybody else noticed the new pathway on the north side of 90 Ave SW from 24 St to Glenmore Landing?
It'll be a great way to avoid pathway congestion in that area during busy weekends, and is flatter / more direct compared to the path thru the park.

Reminder that duck tape and stickers can turn those ugly #yyc election signs into a great fender.

Oh my look at the friend I found today - you should t be out in November.
I moved it from the aster to a cat mint that still has flowers. Hopefully it finds a safe winter home.

Ps so much easier to take photos when they are sluggish!

Folks told me the silver lining to bike theft is new bike day...
Hmm
45 minutes to find new light is faulty and I am not an idiot who can't operate it
30 minutes and a lost washer spacer thingy to put a different saddle on (havent yet figured if its set right)
Not fun.
But I got a couple stickers

Today I found this cool fungus with blades of smooth brome grown through it.

Now I wonder can the fungus grow fast enough to trap a leaf? Could a brome grow through the fungus (and why wouldn't it grow around instead?)

Any mycologists who might have insights?

So hard getting geared up mentally to ride as it shifts to cooler weather.
I know it'll be fine once we get going and get used to it again but damn the blanket on the couch is so much more appealing today.

We had 45-ish neighbours and friends over last night for a pizza party and to raise money for CKUA radio. So grateful for the good folks around.
If you can help CKUA please do. www.justgiving.com/page/backyar...
