Nasty, brutish and short. Arts columnist NZ Listener, other words elsewhere. Music with a soupçon of politics.
Nope. No, no, no, no, no. I've already found a piece of Mahler I like, I'm not falling down the back of this sofa.

No. I refuse to give in. If I don't loathe Bruckner with every nerve fibre, then just who am I? 🤣

Sam Uffindell talking about standing over people and bullying them takes the fucking cake. Irony is dead.

It's paywalled. But it was about the Purcell/Dowland album they just released. No analysis. Just gush.

A couple of weeks ago I wrote for the Listener that the more I hear Lea Desandre, the more convinced I am that she is now our leading early music mezzo. Everything she does with Thomas Dunsford (her partner) and Jupiter is wonderful.

The thing with Shane Jones, of course, is that he just doesn't care what people will think about this. He doesn't have that part of the brain that allows for self-doubt or even self-reflection.

Why is it that everyone has a Diesel Park West promo tape? I live in New Zealand and I have a Diesel Park West promo tape.

Fairport's best song. Plus, it has a perfect chord change.

I've only heard a wee bit of her solo piano music and this CD, which I picked up second hand in a dusty New York shop. From the tiny amount I've heard, she seems to have taken a leap forward at some point. The later works are lovely (the 2nd quartet is excellent).

And you're still right about Bose.

Nicolas Willis was an English major; she's never owned a calculator.

Very sad. Otoh, he packed an awful lot of living into those 63 years.
