So fun update, some students picked amazing and/or interesting choices, and some well…I’m not fully sure they understood what a “glass ceiling” was

The guy who originally said he was going to write about RuPaul instead wrote about Marsha P Johnson so that was interesting & a really good choice

I put glass ceiling in quotations, so they know I don’t mean a literal ceiling made of glass 😭

The meaning I give is “a barrier put on people of certain backgrounds (gender, race, nationality, etc) to achieve success, where breaking it creates opportunities for other people of similar backgrounds”

For the record, he mentioned trans people breaking the glass ceiling before

So I’m certain his essay will be positive & offer his thoughts seemingly as an ally

Ru isn’t perfect, but I admire when someone can respect others’ lives especially when they seem vastly different in walks-of-life

One girl wants to write about Beyoncé, & as a black girl from Brazil, I’m interested in her thoughts

But one guy surprised me a ton. I think he’s straight, he has a gf, he’s catholic, & from Colombia. But he said, he’s going to write about Rupaul. I never expected that, so I’ll keep y’all tuned

The idea of the glass ceiling was in the textbook this unit, so I wanted to explore their understanding & thoughts of that

The essay isn’t due til Friday, but I gave them the whole week to build it. I asked today if anyone has started or if they have any ideas of who they’ll write about yet
