During the day workshop, Dr Hájková will be joined by both Dr Will Jones, who translated the book from German to English, and Professor Helen Finch. Dr Hájková's book will be used as a springboard for discussion on Queer Studies in the context of Holocaust Studies.

Queerness remains one of the most stigmatized and overlooked aspects of Holocaust history. Dr Hájková's book explores same-sex desire in the Holocaust, challenging this silence, weaving together compelling stories of German, Dutch, Czech, and Polish Jewish Holocaust victims and survivors.

Those attending in person will also be invited to join a guided introduction to the exhibition and an open Q&A with the curators.

The workshop forms part of an ongoing attempt to reframe the history of Modern Greece and explore links between the Eastern Mediterranean and South Asia in the Modern Period.

The workshop - 'Belonging Across Borders: Refugee Rights, Experiences and Protection in the Twentieth Century' - is co-sponsored by the Hellenic Institute-Centre for Greek Diaspora Studies (Royal Holloway) and the Centre for Global South Asia (Royal Holloway).

The exhibition explores the choices and humanity of older Jews in the face of persecution, flight & survival. Through photographs, personal stories & objects, the exhibition challenges our perceptions of age, vulnerability & agency, offering a vital new lens on the Holocaust.

This exhibition uncovers the untold story of elderly Jews during and after the Holocaust through the eyes of people for whom 1945 often marked the end of their long lives.

The workshop invites postgraduate students and early career researchers to continue pushing the boundaries of Holocaust Studies by interrogating the scope and reach of mid-century European fascist antisemitism across the Mediterranean Sea and into the African and Asian continents.
