Migrated here from Post. Coffee, chocolate, taking pictures, walking/hiking, tennis, gardening, puttering about the house & spending time with my 2 pups, are for me but some of life’s simple pleasures. Unless otherwise noted, pictures are my own.
Unfortunately, I think ours is a country and a society in decline.

If Bluesky ever introduces an edit function I might just keel over from the shock of it all 🤣

Years ago, I had the good fortune of seeing some of the endangered bird species on the upper slopes of Mauna Kea. I hope none of them have gone extinct since then.

More than 180 bird species (out of around 10,000 total) have likely gone extinct over the last 500 years, and the rate of extinction is accelerating. Bird species have disappeared for a number of reas...

I wonder what the space aliens might be telling her.

Kinda surprised the older specimens have held up for as long as they have. I don’t suppose any of them are now extinct.

Oh, my goodness. No, I had not. What I don’t understand though is if people wanted to live in these places, why not just let them?

The residents of Little Bay Islands (LBI) got to vote on it so I hope that was the case with the other coastal villages that were closed as well. Surprised at how much was left behind at LBI by those who did leave.

BR (if I didn’t vote on this set already).

“Little Bay Islands was abandoned primarily due to the collapse of the fishing industry, which had sustained the community for nearly 2 centuries. By 2019, most residents voted to relocate as the town became increasingly expensive to service…

All of your beautiful pictures and the beautiful words that go with them would make for a great book, if you ever felt so inspired.

Well, I’ll be darned! Yes, I noticed that the rocks in the river and on both sides of the river looked so much alike. But I’ll still visit Shawnigan Lake my next time there 🙂

Conditions there must be pretty harsh for only two couples to reside there year round.
