It was wonderful to tour the Loaves and Fishes kitchen in Martinez and meet with volunteers and staff to discuss efforts to combat food insecurity in Contra Costa, particularly as we approach Thanksgiving. In the wealthiest country in the world, no one should go hungry.

Yesterday, the Trump Administration unveiled a plan to hand over more than a billion acres of coastline to Big Oil for offshore drilling, including right here in California. Not only does this move bring environmental harms, but it risks future disasters (1/2).

Last week’s news that Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family will be forced to pay up to $7 billion to the victims of the opioid crisis and to local agencies for recovery programs is an important step toward justice for victims of the opioid crisis this company helped fuel (1/2).
