My district is home to thousands of naturalized US citizens from India, China, Albania, and Iraq, and I will not let the Trump regime insult or intimidate them. Thank you to my House Dem colleagues, as well as prominent naturalized citizens from my district, for joining me today.

Michigan is home to nearly 400,000 naturalized citizens. My home, Troy, is nearly 30% foreign-born. They worked and paid taxes for years before becoming citizens. They volunteer, vote, and hold elected office. They just want to live their lives and contribute to society. Is that too much to ask?

This is par for the course for an administration whose allies use "H-1B" as a slur against Indian and Chinese Americans, both naturalized and native-born. VP @jd-vance-1.bsky.social believes that a staffer who posted "normalize Indian hate" deserves to keep his job.

The political message of the memo is clear: if you look the "wrong way", or worship the "wrong way", or criticize the Trump regime, then you aren't a "real American". There is a target on your back. They want naturalized citizens to live their lives in constant fear that they might be next. #mileg

Earlier this year the DOJ ordered its Civil Division to PRIORITIZE the denaturalization and deportation of naturalized citizens, including those who haven't been accused of a crime. Using the civil courts allows Trump to deport more naturalized citizens in less time.
