We did find a new level of Covid PTSD. I haven't had a class this good in six years and my anxiety will not stop racing about the fact that the world might take them away from me again. I don't love that part.

Yeah, districts have been all about purchasing a popular curriculum and just doing what's trending. Currently lots of them are switching back and in another 15 years people are gonna complain that no one can use context to identify shit. Like so many things, you have to have a variety of tools.

The biggest thing that prevents kids from reading is that their parents don't read to them / model reading. The good news is that schools are pivoting hard back into as much phonics as possible - which is probably why this article is currently in existence.

All phonics is better than no phonics, but those "bad reader" skills are actually very good to have once you have the base down.

Not exactly? Frequency of reading is a bigger issue. It turns out that only doing 100% phonics instruction is great for gen ed kids, but cueing and other adjacent skills are very important skills to have *in addition* to phonics - especially in remedial / intervention classes.

This is why my classroom is full of puzzles. It gives the kids who want to struggle for something a bit to chew on. But yeah, welcome to my annual crisis on my philosophy of education. Shit's a bit yikes these days.

I feel like part of the Pats villains but Chiefs not is Belichick was ruthless and cold and that Reid seems (to me) to be an actually nice dude that talks to people. Like, Brady was obnoxious, but he wasn't the reason the Pats were the bad guys.
