Of course there's a difference, and it's reflected in many state laws.

But . . . that isn't the point. Middle-aged men coercing sexually mature but underage girls into sex is still illegal, exploitative, and vile. "But they weren't 8-year-olds!" is a really weird thing to say.
Megyn Kelly: "I know somebody very close to this case…Jeffrey Epstein, in this person's view, was not a pedophile…He was into the barely legal type, like he liked 15 year old girls…He wasn't into like 8 year olds…There's a difference between a 15 year old and a 5 year old."

There's a real possibility that Trump is the Sandy Hook of sexual abuse, but that outcome isn't set in stone and we can still affect it.
"In retrospect, Sandy Hook marked the end of the U.S. gun control debate,” British columnist Dan Hodges wrote in 2015. “Once America decided killing children was bearable, it was over.”

I am basically of the same view, but I'm all for pressing the Epstein scandal because I expect the public censure that *should* result is the nearest modicum of justice most of these people will ever face.

I emphasize "should" because I know even that's not guaranteed.
i'll be honest i find the epstien stuff similar to the "constitutional crisis" stuff. like, it just seems rooted in the wrong idea that there are actual mechanisms of accountability that will just automatically kick into effect if certain facts "come to light"

pretty sure only resistance does that

every tiny crumb that leaks out is a career ending bombshell and we’re all just supposed to go on with our lives while our elected representatives shrug and tell us there’s nothing to be done about the president’s involvement in a child sex trafficking operation

When I first started learning about the 'tism I thought I couldn't possibly have it because I didn't have the sensory aversions that autists usually do.

Meanwhile most of my life I've worn Birkenstocks all winter because I'd rather have cold toes than constrained toes.

So in his new memoir Fetterman says he should have dropped out of the Senate race after his stroke.

Hoping this means he won't seek reelection, but who knows, and even so he's only halfway through his term.

A couple of folks have asked about this, so my Portland Frog Exodus 8 design is now available on shirts! For now they're only available by pre-order. They'll ship in approximately 4-5 weeks. willburrows.art/shop

I dropped off almost 50 packages at the post office a little bit ago. Most of these were pre-ordered Trekkies Against Fascism t-shirts. Thank you all so much for your orders and for your patience! If you feel like it I always enjoy when people post pics in their new shirts.

Almost as if it's the job of the senate democrats to do whatever they need to do to demoralize, shatter, and disenchant the base whenever we start gaining momentum.

Thought experiment: If they supported Trump, how would they behave differently?
the thing that upsets me about this the most is that Dems had all the momentum, republicans were reeling, and we were getting intra-GOP fighting over the filibuster, all while voters were blaming republicans for their incompetence

this destroys all of this. just a total gut punch

Most of y’all are old enough to remember but it bears repeating, Democrats couldn’t peel off a single member of the Republican caucus in the initial fight to enact the ACA, even after they watered down the plans to attract them.

Republicans got 8 Democrats in what’s essentially a vote to repeal.
Democrats have been fighting for months to address America's healthcare crisis

For the millions who will lose coverage
For people with cancer who won't get the care they need
For working families who can't afford to pay $25K more a year for healthcare

We will keep fighting

When you fold with no concessions less than a week after voters delivered blowout victories for your party, what conclusion do you expect us to draw?
Let me get this right… a sufficient number Senate Democrats appear to be willing to reopen government to alleviate air travel for upper & upper-middle income people at the expense of access to healthcare for lower income people. Yes?
