Forstater appealed to the Employment Appeal Tribunal, and the case was heard by a high court judge who later became president of the tribunal.

4/ Let’s end the thread with some serious legal commentary: Ben Cooper fucking conceded that the “sex” in the definition of gender reassignment is sui generis and doesn’t have the same meaning as elsewhere in the statute and the court agreed. What on earth is the ET judge talking about here?

3/ I like how Robin represented the Trust and took a completely neutral stance tho. It’s fascinating that the tribunal, without much support from her counsel, ended up in this position.

4/ The timing was, again, no coincidence. The developers rushed to complete and sell the properties before the treaty was signed.

Another “no coincidence” is that Grenfell Tower was built a decade earlier. Like the Tai Po towers, after 40 years the exterior required refurbishment.

3/ 1984 was also the year of the Sino-British Joint Declaration, in which Thatcher agreed to the handover of Hong Kong, partly in exchange for oil and gas exploration rights in the South China Sea. In the end, the Chinese took the drilling technology, turning it into a rather bad deal.

2/ The hospital was completed in 1984, the same year as the residential towers that burned. This was no coincidence, both formed part of a major Garden City development in the area. He later opened the children’s cancer centre there in 1994. A childhood friend of mine who had leukaemia died there.

If you don’t tax wealth, you’re effectively subsidising it at the basic tax rate, it’s one of the dullest, most straightforward economic points imaginable. How has this become contentious?
