Yeah, to the extent that the show isn’t just doing its own thing theologically, I think it owes more to Milton and Dante than the original sources.

I think it’s more just an immutable law of fandom: if you spend enough time poring over the text, eventually you’re going to get way too fixated on some tiny detail no one else has noticed, and not be dissuaded even by creator confirmation there’s nothing there to notice.
