RAISE is developing a course on Social Justice with our partner in Georgia.

We are looking for a few good academic papers with a focus on the intersection between social justice and authoritarianism to translate into Georgian.

Any recommendations?

We former USAID officials warned that the illegal, reckless obliteration of our agency would cause people to die.
I look at close to 100 stories a week and even more outside of work. I’ve done this ten years.

This is among the most horrific things I’ve ever read — testimony from dying children whose access to medicine has been cut off by the Trump administration.

Because social-insurance contributions depend on wages, labor-intensive firms now shoulder a larger financing burden, which lets many profitable companies off the hook, note @floriangrant.bsky.social and Luca Pellerano.

This.

The potential that two-party, first-past-the-post systems present for an extremist faction within a party to co-opt the party is a far greater threat than such factions potentially winning smaller numbers of seats on their own and being shutout by other party coalitions
Every American should be aware that proportional representation and multipartyism is what makes it possible for pro-democracy forces to unite against extremists.

A two party system is uniquely terrible at this
In fairness to the Germans, “center-right party willingly enters coalition with social democrats to keep far right locked out” being an actual thing that happens is something I’m rather envious of.

The TL;DR is that it takes years of investment in mobilization (messaging isn't nearly enough!) by the opposition to overcome competitive authoritarianism. The Democratic Party needs to get a move on it.

Cuts to U.S. funding are causing untold damage to persons with disabilities. Organisations in the Balkans, Eastern Europe and South Caucasus are especially affected.

We call on the EU, EU countries and donors to step up and provide emergency funding:

Whether that's wealth according to the global metric or localised inequalities, this blog's suggestion of an 'extreme wealth line' is quite provoking!
