Confirmed: Earlier this morning a photog overheard agents inside the parking garage say “dismissed,” believed to be calling off their planned mass raid.

A source tells me they had planned for *hundreds* of agents to flood Canal St. They got flooded instead.

Exactly 80 years ago tomorrow (Nov. 30, 1945), German submarine commander Heinz-Wilhelm Eck and two of his former subordinates on the U-852 were shot by Allies in Hamburg for killing the survivors of a ship they had sunk. Pete Hagueseth should be very worried. www.executedtoday.com/2009/11/30/1...

1984 is over-cited, but the best word for this is doublethink. MAGA has tons of it.

Trump is a strong leader no one would cross and a poor victim who deserves sympathy.

He brought crime down and crime is out of control.

The Epstein Files are fake to hurt Trump and have nothing negative about him.
This is the crux of the MAGA strategy: make contradictory claims and hope no one notices. Either the files are fake, or they’re harmless — they can’t logically be both.
New in PN: MAGA's Epstein gaslighting is unsustainable

"The Epstein files are a 'hoax,' Trump says — a lie made up by Dems to make him look bad. Yet somehow, at the same time, there’s nothing in them that could make him look bad — b/c if there was, Biden would have released them. So which is it?"

Many young Afghans who held elite positions working with the U.S. military are now adrift in America. They’ve been left to build a life on the margins of an uncaring society.

Seattle City Attorney Ann Davison introduced banishment zones for people suspected of committing certain offenses that barred them from entering parts of the city. She lost her reelection bid to a challenger who opposes that policy.

A big part of the problem is that this is *iterative* AI, which involves pattern-matching, and it's actually super useful for this kind of research. The "boil the ocean to make a picture of a chick with three breasts" is *generative* AI, and the techbros are being very careful to conflate the two.

I was bullied by conservative teachers in HS

In places where the power structure is White supremacy & all that comes with it, what do you think the schools will look like?

How education is governed in the US is criminal & yet is widely accepted as normal – it is not
A persistent myth is that US teachers are a left-wing monolith. It's a destructive myth.

"He says some teachers seem to make a point of working his legal name into every interaction, he told the Texas Tribune, outing him to peers and rekindling the dread he felt in his time before Ethan."
Teachers are outing trans students thanks to state's new "Don't Say Gay" law - LGBTQ Nation
His deadname is "sprawled everywhere," said one high school senior.

One of the biggest barriers to implementing pro-housing policy is the folk wisdom that building new market rate/mixed-income housing increases rents even though study after study shows that the opposite is the case:

building more housing lowers rents
Interesting new working paper that studies chains of movers after the construction of a new apartment building in Honolulu.

Paper finds that the project resulted in the opening up other, lower cost, housing on the island, benefiting the housing market overall.

In my adult life republicans have tricked democrats into following them right and this feels like the first time that democrats have had enough victories far enough left to force a couple of them even one millimeter back toward the middle

Embarrassing that it took dems so long to try this playbook.
man idk if I'm just seeing it for the first time or what, but it feels like the last few days have been such a hard turn with republicans being willing to just tell this admin to go fuck themselves. I don't think this was happening before?
I mean, as fighting words as it gets here from a GOP official against the White House.

The prohibition is rather specific.

"The DOD Manual is clear because the law here is clear: 'Persons who have been incapacitated by . . . shipwreck are in a helpless state, and it would be dishonorable and inhumane to make them the object of attack.'"
Harvard Law School’s Jack Goldsmith:

“In short, if the Post’s facts are correct, it appears that Special Operations Forces committed murder when the ‘two men were blown apart in the water, as the Post put it.’”
