The time to act is now. Come election season it may already be too late; democracy could be gone.

This is unfortunately not just about the US, it's about democracy in the world.

I hear Americans hoping the next elections will fix this.

I try not to be pessimistic, but for the last six months it’s been clear to me: this regime is doing everything it can so there won’t be real elections next year — or at the very least only sham ones.

People say all fascist regimes eventually fall. True: in the 20th century, they did.

But it cost countless lives and required countries that weren’t fascist, with both the power and will to defeat them.

If the US falls into fascism, will there be a democratic country left to stop it?

The situation is already dire in Europe with regards to the extreme right; it will get worse as the US makes it standard, justifies it, and normalises it.

When Europeans see China or Russia behaving like dictatorships, it has little influence, it's expected and not normative.

When the US does, many Europeans still consider it reasonable — they still believe the US is an example of democracy and freedom, and want to copy it.

I'd rather not spend time in jail for denouncing fascism on social, that's why (personally).

“Terrible things are happening outside. Poor helpless people are being dragged out of their homes. Families are torn apart. Men, women, and children are separated. Children come home from school to find that their parents have disappeared.”
