True. We will never know.. Like the constant present-day narrative of the sanghis - if Patel was the 1st PM instead of Nehru, then India would have been "Utopia" with US$ 15 trillion economy, blah, blah, blah.

Colonise other lands? How can the colonised be the colonisers?

Interesting thought.
I doubt even that. But then no Gandhi, Nehru, Patel, Bose, Bhagat Singh, Kamaraj, Pawar, Roy, .......... either.

Result constant conflicts especially sharing of river waters & you name it.
Remember, there were 560+ princely states at the time of Independence.
The geology & the geography demands that the sub-continent be under one entity.
"jo huaa woh theek huaa". IMO, British rule did more good than harm

If British had not done what they did, the sub-continent would have had 15 to 20 or more countries - Travancore, Baroda, Ambar, Nizam, Mysore, Patiala, Udaipur, Kolhapur, etc. None would have had any influence on the world stage. Tweeny weeny nations.

Not the current state since 2014. Hope Modi era is an aberration.
The only major inter-state disputes are sharing of river waters.

(shut down in 1939 due to efforts of Tagore & Gandhi) were exceptions.
Other benefits also accrued to India. A massive railway network for example.
World Warr II hastened the process to grant Independence to India.
One has to note that we parted as "friends".

Agree.
Not all British administrators in India were evil & cruel. Majority of them were reasonable, upright & fair, It must have also dawned on them that ruthlessness would not pay in the long run. They were here for the long run, so they imagined.

We are like a European Union. A union of states with distinct languages, cultures, ethos, lifestyles.
E.g : Tamil Nadu & Haryana equivalent to say Belgium & Greece.
However, the RSS/BJP wish to undo this - one language, one religion, one curriculum, one blah, blah, blah.

Then colonial masters enacted the Government of India Act, 1935, giving a further push for "democracy" in india.
A very large number of Constituent Assembly members were exposed to "English" education in Indian & in the UK. Hence, we have the Indian Constitution - enabling democracy.
November 28, 2025 at 4:22 AM
Unlike UK, other Europeans did not introduce semblance of "democracy & elections" for natives to be involved in decision making in the countries they occupied.

In India, "elections" were held for the first time in 1920. Then in 1923, 1926, 1930, 1934 & 1945,

1. Haven't watched any. I do not watch much television these days, except sports programmes.
2. Earlier, Pakistani dramas were very popular & much sought after in India. Had watched some while working in the Middle East.
3. The only US one I remember watching was "Rich Man, Poor Man",

Super.
In dream world XI, it would be wonderful to see Lindwall & Truman open the bowling. No respite for the batsmen at either end of the wicket.

Nigeria is not alone,
Many armed conflicts around the world.
About 35 in Africa alone.
Sudan, Congo, Burkina Faso, Manipur, Syria, Haiti, Russia-Ukraine & Gaza genocide.

You can always watch them on YouTube videos.
In my book, Ray Lindwall & Freddie Truman are the best fast bowlers of all time, followed by Richard Hadlee & Malcom Marshal.
Of course, there have been many outstanding pace bowlers. Bumrah is now being counted amongst them.

Sounds familiar.
Ditto in Inda.
Cases against Hindutvawadis withdrawn or not argued properly. Lynching cases put in cold storage.
The latest Melgaon blast case- no one was held guilty. Those accused of corruption are laundered once they join NDA.
That is fascism.
