So let's hope this gives people some perspective that making creative art is frustrating, and annoying. That it does take time and iteration. And see that the final product before you has a lot of effort put into it. And that you shouldn't hyper focus on art that other people make.

Especially with social media as it is, it's easy to be demoralized, to just stop. Everything looks so perfect, nothing goes wrong at all. All that amazing art is pushed to your feed... I totally understand and feel for all those people who gave up, because the bar is set so impossibly high.

Let's put it into perspective: After three years I can make covers that look like this. I never expected that I could do that. Honestly, this kind of thing requires practice and work. And with a full-time job, I wonder if I'll have enough free time to build up the skills to do so.

Did I enjoy making the cover? Well... The first hours were hellish for me. But after getting into my comfort zone, time flew, and I had a lot of fun putting the whole thing together. Making it look better and better with every iteration.

A bit later, it was mostly done... Only to forget the whiskers. Then came that... And I added a whole bunch of effects to make it stand out. The glow on the tail, the blue elements on the zeraora. The sparks and of course the lightning surrounding our yellow zapcat.

I did give an honest attempt at drawing this current cover by hand, but after two hours, I was just too frustrated and decided to vectorize it. To the left is what I had after starting over about three times. To the right was what I had after working for a little while.

I have tried a bit to get into drawing, but I can't match up my hands with the ideas my head. Seeing friends surpass me while I still have issues getting basic shapes down is incredibly frustrating, but I also have the feeling that I'm not consistently practicing drawing either.

Let me show you: to the left is the flat version of my latest cover, and to the right it's shaded with all of its effects. The difference is night and day in my opinion.

I didn't know how to use vectors at the time, so I struggled a lot to get even the shapes right. Especially the whiskers were hard to get down. These days, I have colored other people's sketches and shaded them. That can add soooo much to an image.

I saw a wine advent calendar at a Dutch jumbo a few years back. It was around 50 euro and contained plastic flasks of liquor.

So I'm not too surprised about this one.
