His sense of purpose and reason for existing falters pretty dramatically, leaving cracks for old wounds to begin bleeding again.

Hespra is a bit tougher about it. They mainly suffer when it’s too cold, forcing them to isolate indoors more often. Being sedentary makes them anxious and restless.

Both do, unfortunately. Tath takes it hardest; despite prefering to spend his time indoors, the lack of natural light affects his mood significantly. Add to it his work being much more difficult when bodies have been left in freezing temps, to the point where he may need to wait months for a burial…

Hespra: yes, with a surprising “but”—they’re picky with their attraction, and while they might only fuck once, they often end up seeing the person again later as a friend if nothing else.

Tath: no, though he had them in the past when he was otherwise completely alone and desperate for connection.

For Hespra it’s the smell of drying herbs. Yarrow in particular, being highly aromatic and distinctive, or when they all blend together in a medicinal medley; it reminds them of their mother’s work.

Mushrooms end up being a good nutritional replacement for meat for them, providing access to iron and calcium during the times of year when soft leafy greens are much less availible.

Also: some of the more toxic mushrooms give elves a nice high. Those are fun.

Hespra likes them because unlike animals, the harvest and consumption of mushrooms doesn’t involve the fungus being significantly harmed, so eating them doesn’t make them feel awful! This is relevant because fungus has an animal spirit, and would cause that effect if it was dying when harvested.

Hespra absolutely can and does, even tho they prefer not to eat what they catch—it’s for others, or in emergencies only. They’re very good with a bow, but also use snares for small game. They never hunt anything larger than they can carry alone: mostly deer, rabbits, fish.

Tath can’t hunt. Period.
