I want to stress that this is different than wanting perpetrators of violence to see consequences, of course. But sometimes you have to figure out when someone just wants their turn at the seat of hegemony, and it sucks.

But what does happen in some cases (and it's terrible) is an unequal "reaching back." The company extends one hand. And it's only for the writer.
(I'm not going to get into how most writers are cishet white men and the artistic talent pool is WAY more diverse. But it has an impact.)

No company wants to give royalties. Companies are greedy. They'll never play fair unless they are made to play fair. But a company that wants to retain talent and avoid abysmal PR will "reach back" for creators. Exclusive deals. Lofty producer and consultant titles with equally hefty salaries, etc.
