Amazing screening tonight at the mostly-full, 999-seat Geffen Theater at the Academy! My first time seeing my favorite director in person, and my first opportunity to see a favorite film on the big screen since I saw it in '99.

Wrapping up an excellent birthday weekend of NES, exploring LA (including a cupcake ATM!), a softball walk-off that got us into next week's playoffs, and finally watching my Blu-rays of "Screamers" and "Sansho the Bailiff."

I started a monthly book club but for cult films, using Peary's "Cult Movies" books and Tobias' "New Cult Canon" lists. Just wrapped this month's discussion, with Glazer's "Under the Skin" and Roeg's "The Man Who Fell to Earth." It went wide enough to encompass the "Westphall Theory," so good talk!

I called Padilla yesterday to vote no on all nominees, and you helped me remember that Schiff's mailbox was full, so I tried again (still full) before writing to him on his website.

I only take the Hall with an idle curiosity these days, but glad to see Ichiro get in on the first ballot even if it wasn't unanimous. This was the fan ballot I submitted at FanGraphs, for what pittance it's worth.

I've got a goulash from my mom's recipe in the oven, a Hungarian pinot grigio, and Tarr's 439-minute "Sátántanó" (my second viewing and seeing it at the NW Film Forum some years ago) on Blu-ray from the video store. And away we go!
