The Enabling Act (The Law for removing the Distress of the People and the Reich) gave Hitler the power to issue emergency decrees without the approval of President Hindenburg. • Hitler made the Nazis the only legal political organisation in the country • the other parties were banned or dissolved themselves • no-one could now challenge the Nazis legally - making opposition very dangerous • opponents of the Nazis now had to work in secret • some opponents fled abroad Suppressing all opposition • In April 1933, the parliaments of the German states (Lander) were replaced by Nazi governors who could appoint and dismiss officials and judges • On 2 May 1933 trade unions were abolished and their leaders arrested. The German Labour Front was established in their place. Follow up to free speech argument I got from #Parkville Savers: A biz can’t discriminate based on protected characteristics - wearing a Nazi symbol is not protected tho. A private biz in #Baltimore Co may refuse service to a #Nazi especially if it is deemed offensive or disruptive to other patrons.
In Baltimore County, Maryland, businesses are prohibited from discriminating against individuals based on protected characteristics such as race, religion, national origin, sex, age, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, veteran status, source of income, or physical or mental disability.  However, wearing a Nazi symbol is not a protected characteristic. Therefore, a private business in Baltimore County may refuse service to an individual displaying such a symbol, especially if it violates the business’s dress code policy or is deemed offensive or disruptive to other patrons. It’s important for businesses to ensure that their policies are applied consistently and do not infringe upon the protected classes outlined in local anti-discrimination laws.

UPDATE: I spoke with Chris Carlson, Savers Regional Dir. I shared what happened, how this man goes in often showing off the swastika, how it’s intimidating and feels unsafe to employees and customers. He asked…. “What US law did he break?” Beyond an employee mtg, no action planned. More in photos…
UPDATE: I called today and spoke with Chris Carlson, Savers Regional Director (480-272-0188). I explained what happened and I said this is really problematic as he goes in there often and it’s intimidating and feels unsafe to employees and customers. I asked for them to ban him or at least ban him from wearing Nazi symbols. His response…. “What US Law did he break?” Basically he stated that the Nazi has a right to free speech. When I said he told someone to kill themselves. He said if anyone is threatened with harm, they should call 911 and Savers will comply with law, work with police and provide camera footage if needed. I said Savers has an opportunity to really stand up for the safety and well-being of their employees and customers - who are so diverse! - over this one man’s freedom to intimidate with a hate symbol. He said the regional manager (Andrés Gonzalez, 703-399-6028) is going to speak to staff today. Mr. Carlson said that if the staff say they feel intimidated or harmed, they will work with legal to address it. I am concerned about the staff and if they’ll get pushback for talking with me about what happened and how it feels intimidating. I got the sense talking to employees that it may be intimidating to bring it up with management and they’ve already said something and Savers says there is nothing they can do. I’d love to see others speak up if they see this guy there - especially if he gets violent or calls for harm - or reach out to Savers if you have feedback on how they can support the employees and community. Thanks to everyone for the shout outs! I’m so glad to see lots of support against this kind of hate!

Yup, thats me and it’s the Parkville Savers. He’s a real pos. Apparently he goes in often. Staff hate it. My son saw it first, then my Muslim friend. I looked up at him walking towards this group of Jewish boys and black women. I was like oh hell no. He turned the other way and I followed him.
