Fun fact, no one actually knows how brains work, that’s why it’s an active subject of research.

OG “AI” was created as a tool for this research—modeling various brain functionality in hopes to learn something. (These models aren’t facsimiles of biology, they are mathematical abstractions.)
Notice how tech talks about brains, they treat soft, vague, high level concepts as formal definitions. "Optimized for natural selection we have innate drives for power seeking..." They never explain how any of that happens/works! Then, if their program "fits" the definition, they claim they did it!

Sometimes you’re just reading an email and that email sounds so good, like the words are doing that sentence thing, plus there’s so much wit and stuff, and before you know it, you can’t help but think “Hey, I’m Stephen King, guess I’m the guy who wrote that great email I just read!”

Then you post.

It’s 2005. A court is considering whether ISPs can be liable for copyright infringement committed by their users.

It’s 2010. It’s 2013. It’s 2025.
And we're off with SCOTUS arguments in Sony v Cox. The question at issue: whether ISPs can be liable for the copyright infringement committed by their users.

It really is precisely the inverse of how much work you actually are doing
The numbers in here are hilarious.

Do you use AI on the job?
Execs: 87%
Managers: 57%
Workers: 27%

Planned investment by 2030: $5T
"Necessary" annual revenue to justify that spend: $650B
Current annual revenue: $50B
Three years into the generative-AI wave, demand for the technology seems surprisingly flimsy

I was born in Oklahoma, I grew up in Oklahoma, and I spent most of my life in Oklahoma. I wish it didn't feel like it was impossible for trans people to build a stable and secure life there.
every trans person i see post about the OU suspension knows that the suspended target is trans & a grad student, & has an innate awareness that this is about purging trans employees. every cis person i see thinks the target is a rando professor & that this is about giving conservatives good grades
