To conclude: to those who don’t mind a more story-focused adventure game, Mutazione is definitely a game not to be missed!✨

Last but not least, I adore the game’s art style, as well as the soft and laid back soundtrack. There is the option to just sit in the gardens you’ve created and listen to the music, which is definitely something I’d recommend doing!❤️

So to me, the more I played, the more the village came to life, and the more I felt reminded of the importance of human connection and embracing each other’s quirks. This, in my opinion, is where the game truly shines.

But where soap opera’s tend towards melodrama, the drama in Mutazione usually originates in the pure humanness of its characters. There are stupid mistakes and impulse decisions with huge consequences, but they all come from believable and deep characters who are both so lovable and flawed.

As you spend more time in Mutazione, you get to know the different villagers and their quirks. This is also where the „soap opera“ aspect comes to life, because even with just a handful of inhabitants, there is plenty of gossip and drama!

Gardening is not very complex, and very meditative. To me, that was perfectly complementary to the game’s best part: the characters and their stories.

Gameplay is pretty straightforward - most of the time you will go around and talk to the different villagers and pick up seeds from the local fauna to build gardens later on in the game. These gardens will have a specific musical theme that Kai can play, which will let the plants grow better.

But as you slowly find out, there are things happening in Mutazione for which Nonno needs Kai’s help.

You play as Kai, a teen girl visiting her estranged grandfather Nonno who lives on the island Mutazione - a place those with mutations call their home after a meteor hit the earth. Nonno is severely ill and requested Kai visit him to get to know her better - or so you think.

All said and done, Smushi Come Home definitely ranks among my favourite cozy games of all time!🍄❤️✨

Last but not least, the the art style is absolutely beautiful, and I also really loved the soundtrack; I'm sure I'll be listening to the DLC portion in particular on the regular!

Smushi, as well as the characters you meet along the way, are quirky and all so loveable. I'd say nothing is incredibly deep, but sometimes just a little mushroom persevering through hardships and helping others on their adventure is all the heart needs.

It is all very simple, but incredibly satisfying. I never really got badly stuck at a puzzle or a platforming challenge, they felt perfectly balanced to me.

As you go through different areas of a beautiful forest, you help out a colourful variety of npc's, collect gems and quest items, and jump, climb and glide around. Along the way you gain a few items to help you with the quests and get to upgrade some of your skills.

Gameplay and story are both relatively simple; you help the titular Smushi to get back home after getting taken away from it by a bird, and of course that is never as straightforward as it could be.

The Pikmin shorts are amazing! I'd love to see more little animations like that, and Animal Crossing definitely seems like a great candidate too!

This reminds me of my mother, whose job revolves around (smart)phones, but who somehow doesn't manage to transfer these skills to a Nintendo Switch. I had to explain the freaking settings button to her 😭😂

The Octopath Traveler I vinyl 😭 It's one of my favourite soundtracks of all time, so I'm annoyed that I didn't get it while it was available 🥲

I too was surprised by the normal sounding title, but felt relieved when I saw the one town was named "Philabieldia" - clearly, they just put their naming creativity elsewhere this time 😂

Hauntii, woohoo! A Switch copy would be absolutely lovely for my collection ☺️

I really wish there would've been an option in game upon release to get this information. Like having Rauru as a companion or something. But anyways, this definitely seems like a good reason to replay both games on Switch 2 😊
