I like to study ancient toilets, privies, and fecal deposits. You can't lie in your poops! I also study textiles & pottery.

Not interested in romance, because straight men killed it for me. (Archeologist, Retired Farmer, Political/Economic Risk Analyst)

We should stop arguing about Democrat/GOP and Liberal/Conservative. Who is the best leader; Corporatists, Oligarchs, or the working class person. Democrats and the GOP consider what is best for a corporation, even if that means health care for the workers. Oligarchs want what is best for them.

Today, November 29th I'm at Ad Gefrin, Museum and Distillery in Wooler, Northumberland. I'll be making replicas of Post-Roman/Anglo-Saxon pottery. Lots of other craftspeople and local food producers here. Come along if you're in the area 🏺

Dental calculus analysis (the identification of microparticles embedded in mineralized dental plaque!) has revealed clear evidence of ELS215's participation in cloth production. As she worked with wool, flax and, dye, fibres and plant material ended up in her mouth! Image callout 2 is dyer's madder!

I dislike being angry. I had another potter trying to tell me how to glaze my piece. I was trying to dip it when the tongs slipped. Her constant comments while I was trying to work were annoying as heck. Plus, her ideas would have ruined my piece. I finally threw up my hands and left.

It does make me want to pull my cheddars out of storage to try them. I am going to let them age.

Day 14: Heavy. Weight, bulk, heft are important aspects of the materiality of ancient objects, and hard to convey visually or through text. This Red Polished bowl is surprisingly heavy in the hand, like a full mug of tea, and it rests centred and self-contained despite its rounded base. #Museum30

My feed has been a monotone of frustration and fury for 24 hours. I know I am in my own propaganda hole, of my own device. I popped over to fox news to check on the propaganda.
Whoa. Almost nothing about Epstein.

I tried to create a portrait of my cat. Purely done in Stroke & Coat, fired to cone 5 with a 2 minute hold, over white reclaim clay.

I think this is pearl spectrum on B mix, cone 5 with a 2 minute hold. Or, its a sand dollar trinket dish.

What a fun thing to do. My glaze choices could have been better. I love whales.

"In his latest quest to fix something far from broken, racist billionaire lunatic Elon Musk decided to unleash his own optimized version of Wikipedia, predictably named Grokipedia..." SFgate has hired people to read my mind.

I tried Elon Musk's Wikipedia clone and boy is it racist
SFGATE columnist Drew Magary tested out Grokipedia and has some notes.

The unfired Mabin Stamped (Early Marksville culture ca. 1-200 CE) wolf track bowl with fired test tile & the bowl after firing in the fire pit.

Thankfully, I was able to keep it from being the bright orange-red of the test tile. #ceramics #archaeology

A simple tea cup, but the things that went into making it just so are not so simple.

Yellow iron glaze, high fired in gas reduction to 1300C. Speckled stoneware clay.

It's quite big. Will hold a mug's worth of liquid.

3 - ??? (maybe tenmoku) on local stoneware

The fired Fort Walton Incised (ca. 900-1500 CE) bowl.

It has 2 spots where rosin came out pinholes & charred. Never had that happen before, but some of the clay came from an upland pine treefall, so I missed a couple of rootlets. #ceramics #archaeology
