THESE guys didn’t give us smartphones. They got their nut by ruining smartphones by turning them into predatory slot machines with a side of surveillance capitalism. I’d kill to put the people who invented the smartphones back in the driver’s seat of the industry.

Also all the liability being concentrated in the least financially solvent families in society creates a different sort of welfare loss compared to it being concentrated in the theoretical net worth of a bunch of VC robber barons.

Yeah this is one of the reasons I got annoyed at all the “How dare we feature Liz Cheney in a rally” complaints. We need a decent number of defectors to be passionate about restoration or we’re boned!

Fair, I can see where I missed your point. Though I think we can appeal to vengeful sensibilities by waving the bloody shirt to get the enablers out of power up and down all the political offices.

I’m agnostic to the underlying motivations, my point is that we realistically have <2 years to get the top leadership tried and sentenced and 4 to neutralize the entire hive of coup-plotters. There really is no time for dithering or analysis paralysis, the Republic is on its deathbed.

We don’t have the luxury of 20 year accountability systems. We tried to do a 5 year accountability system for Trump when the next election was 4 years away and look where it got us.

They’re just too wedded to materialism as the only thing that matters. People have been criticizing GDP as a measure of well being forever, but the argument is that fixation on an aggregate of consumption ability tilts policy away from more spiritually or psychologically fulfilling ways of living.

Politicians can’t teach people because they aren’t (and shouldn’t be) trusted like that. The news is supposed to teach people but they’re too busy doing theater criticism, covering the horse race, and sanewashing to maintain the appearance of balance.

25+ years ago “ordering delivery” basically meant pizza or Chinese. Sushi and other options generally meant paying a lot of money if they were available at all. That’s technically “obtain food” but it’s a lot nicer of an experience than bundling it together implies.

Honestly I’ve tried it like 4 times and bounced off it hard each time. I find the sense of humor kind of hamfisted, “random,” and self-righteous. I’m told it‘s got an Eastern European sense of humor so maybe it just doesn’t land for me in the way “dry” British humor doesn’t for some people.

The fact that you had to reach back to before WW1 to find examples from a Nazi sympathizer that come close to as bad as it is today should have prompted a bit of chin-stroking. Instead of “well acshually it was never perfect so it was always this bad.“ It wasn’t. You are wrong.
