Hello, I’m Nyika. I’m a neurodivergent 30-something newly living in Auckland, Aotearoa NZ. I am in the first year of studying studying for a PhD in neurodiversity, the transition to adulthood, the neoliberal idea of ‘normal’, and critical pedagogy.

Bought some hilariously hideous shoes that were billed as "shandals" and basically they are ideal for an NZ summer. Kind of like trainers with holes in that you can wear in water if you so wish.

Extremely irritating time trying to charge the car. Literally went to like 3 different places until I found a free, working charger. But now installed at a Z with an iced coffee so things are looking up.

Ok, plan today is to have a quick drive out to Princess Bay, maybe even have a paddle (not lifeguarded so I won’t have an actual swim), then couple of things to get in the shops before meeting Dan for a second go on the cable car.

I asked my mum for pink paint for my 6th birthday. My plan was to paint stripes on our white cat, so she'd look just like Bagpuss on TV. Fortunately, my mother worked out my plan. She got me some watercolours and took me for lunch at the Wimpy. A win.

Kind of impressive how I’ve looked at 7 historical books/documents about tertiary education for disabled people and not one has mentioned autism. The only neurodiversity adjacent thing I found was on “reading disabilities”. V interesting.
