Yeah, it's a big problem. Though to be fair to them, many progressives would be unwilling to appear at such an event, making it difficult to get balanced panels.

I've also been a few times and the biggest problem is that it's not a genuine battle of ideas. On many topics, most of the speakers agree with each other!

In the US, I think people conceive liberalism more broadly. Here, I'm talking about the UK liberal centrism which is rather narrow and very dismissive of challengers to its left.

Yet within education sectors, right-wingers tend to place more emphasis upon difficult academic subjects and rigorous standards than left-wingers. Compared to right-wingers, left-wingers tend to be more motivated by equality. I've seen survey evidence on this, though can't find it at the moment!
