Posting this again, as it's relevant to discussion today.

Using BES data, it shows the difference between Labour 2024 voters' own position on immigration and their perception of Labour's position.

Overall, evidence that Labour should take a more liberal position on immigration might be stronger...

Reform may be leading the polls comfortably, but they're comparatively poorly rated among the 17.3% of the British electorate who 'don't know' how they'll vote in a general election...

Using BES data, this chart shows the difference between Labour 2024 voters' own position on immigration and their perception of Labour's position.

With the exception of Labour to Reform switchers, the differences aren't huge.

More evidence Labour is getting this about right?

Among British left-wingers, Reform are less popular than even the Conservative Party! This is another explanation for the coordination in Caerphilly and demonstrates the potential for such coordination at a general election...

The Organization journal has published an editorial on the Gaza war. Yet I worry that such statements create more problems than they resolve. On which other issues will you issue public statements? And crucially, will you maintain your stance if the position becomes unpopular/dangerous?

Delighted to get this endorsement for our book from the great Geoff Evans 😊😊😊

I wasn't expecting this! Even among Welsh voters with above average strength of Welsh identity, Reform are the most popular party...

In our forthcoming book which uses over 10 US and UK datasets and different measures of social justice values, female gender is almost always associated with support for these values.

There are problems with the logic here. For example, how would you explain these trends?

The standard in the Welsh league isn't *quite* as good as the Premiership... but we still love it 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿⚽️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

🚨🚨NEW🚨🚨

The 'progressive cat lady' is a staple of culture war discourse; J. D. Vance once dismissed Democrats as 'a bunch of childless cat ladies with miserable lives'.

But I can’t find any evidence for them…

Repeat after me - partisan influences on inequality are secondary

The economic and cultural values of party supporters, according to the recent wave of the British Election Study. Coming from rural West Wales, it always surprises me that Plaid supporters are so liberal. Here, only the Greens have more liberal supporters!

Historically, lists of political enemies have a very illiberal record. This new website, which lists people who celebrated Kirk's murder, doesn't seem to be an exception.

On Friday, I was fortunate enough to promote our book, Beyond Woke and Anti-Woke, at a plenary session of the #EPOP2025 conference. Thanks to all who came and co-panellists Helen Berry, @evemworth.bsky.social and @hannahbunting.bsky.social

Latest Senedd poll. The rise of Reform may be a big story, yet it seems very unlikely that they'll lead/join a government - there's a clear progressive majority here.

Noteworthy that Rees-Mogg has taken this position - clearly, straightforward comparisons are problematic...

In a 2019 AJPS article, Broockman et al. find that US technology entrepreneurs have liberal attitudes across most policy areas. Would be interested in seeing a contemporary survey!
