I was looking up a bird from Borneo called a ruai which I then found out was called (by westerners) a "great argus." I laughed but kind of appreciate with the "eyes" on the feathers and all. Then I saw this pic.

To keep myself from completely losing it I decided to gorge on my more unhealthy comfort foods. So I fried up some homemade tostadas & tortilla chips & also made refried beans. At least it provided a distraction. And it was all fucking delicious.
(The tortillas are green bc they have nopal in them)

I have a 55 gal tank I use as a carnivorous & epiphytic plant terrarium. These tiny guys popped out a few months ago when I was running the mister. I've had this kind of snail appear in other terrariums - I don't know the species but I assume eggs are coming in on the dried sphagnum or other mosses

That would be a violation of both city and county policy. The I-team also found six sergeants in the Sheriff's Office who live out of state - in Idaho, Nevada, Texas and Tennessee. Two of them work on the bomb squad where they made almost $600,000 in pay and benefits last year. They're supposed to respond to a bomb threat within one hour -- no way that's happening, if they're in Tennessee.

I collected samples from a big beautiful raven today. It took all my hand strength to open the beak. You can't really tell but he was over 2 ft from head to the tip of the tail. When I picked him up they told me they clipped his nails so I wouldn't get injured. I felt so bad having to throw him away

I'm not the only one saying this either, regarding the positioning of Federal immigration agents etc at Coast Guard Island in Alameda*. It is quite fucking suspect

*where I've lived for 10+ years & lived on the edge of Fruitvale prior
A chatlog of me texting my friend Also something that I don't think is included in any of the news about this is that Coast Guard Alameda is directly across a very thin Estuary from Fruitvale which is like the hugest Latino (especially Mexican) neighborhood in the sort of San Francisco/Oakland part of the inner Bay Area. All of the stuff is focused on them going to San Francisco but I don't think that that's all they're going to try to do Now - Edited Because yeah I mean Coast Guard Island is the only military base in this part of the Bay Area but there's tons of federal land that they could stage from if they were going to San Francisco i. San Francisco is full of federal land, like the whole presidio. I'm just trying to imagine them like having to cross the fucking Bay bridge everyday or like get a boat from Coast Guard Island to San Francisco everyday, that's how they're going to be staging? it doesn't make a ton of sense

Anyway, here is my comment with basically all of the points I made here. Feel free to copy some/all if you don't know what to say.
"Anticoagulant Rodenticide Mitigation Informal Public Comment / Taller público informal del DPR sobre la mitigación - 9/24/25" I greatly oppose the proposed mitigations to California's ban on these anticoagulant rodenticides. 35 days/105 days a year is more than enough time for these rodenticides to enter local food webs and cause illness and death in local wildlife. Limiting their use to 50 ft of manmade structures is also not an actual solution to the problem of secondary rodenticide poisoning. The wildlife that are most often affected by secondary rodenticide poisoning are synanthropic species that are seeking out rodents that congregate in areas used & occupied by humans, which should be obvious since rodents outside of human-use areas aren't generally being targeted by rodenticide applications. Applicators and agencies who are in favor of these poisons should already be educated on other ways of excluding and managing rodent infestations as this type of education is already required by the state of California in order to be certified to use non-commercial rodenticides. This is a meaningless gesture meant to make it seem like allowing their use will have different results than it has in the past.

I was groggy as hell & couldn't even stand while I took a shower but I somehow made it to work. When I got there I realized that I brought my personal laptop instead of my work laptop. But I did get to go pick up a big beautiful raven that I'm gonna test, dropped it off in our lab, & then came home
