It’s advent calendar day! I love advent calendars so much that I have 3: shortbread, jam and tea.

Today I have a chocolate chip shortbread cookie, blueberry & maple syrup jam and Christmas tea. I’ve probably started with my favourite jam, as I adore blueberries and maple syrup.

The death of browsing is part of the reason art is the way it is now. Our opinions are largely fed to us by algorithms. Spending a spare 15 minutes wandering around a bookstore or comic shop or video rental place was how you found stuff you wouldn't ordinarily pick up and thereby expanded your taste
Bookselling is like the most "people go to the store and buy what looks cool to them without a particular agenda" type business left, and your purchases have a huge influence on what is ordered, what is displayed, and what is recommended.

An animal sanctuary in the Okanagan had avian flu detected in some of their birds. In contrast to Universal Ostrich they complied with the CFIA rules, culling some of their animals and quarantining the rest. Today they have learned their flock of peacocks will not have to be culled

An issue we're seeing at all levels of university is that many students are simply refusing to do *anything*. They aren't reading the syllabus, aren't following assignment guidelines, aren't engaging with material, ignoring deadlines. And this might seem like old news, but it truly has ramped up.

Okay. So the new gay hockey show Heated Rivalry from Crave that’s on HBO?
IT’S REALLY FUCKING FANTASTIC.
Not only is it basically a perfect page-to-screen adaptation, it is so raw and so subtle that it should win awards.
The chemistry between the leads, the quiet moments, it’s all incredible.

If writing is so easy why do people argue that they can’t do it without the pablumatic verbiage extruder

And if it’s so difficult then why do people think it’s not labour and writers are not workers
