My code is almost perfected. I only use handwriting to communicate with myself anyway.

We don’t have the big budget or access to big-$ sponsors that the “Central Business District” commands, but we have incredible festival & cultural organizations, collaborative local business organizations, and a community that loves to show up when we throw a party. #NewWest as the #NewFunCity?

...we are also seizing the opportunity to bring community together to celebrate the World Cup coming to Canada (and Canada playing in the World Cup!) with plans to invite community out for viewing parties plus sports, games, and multi-cultural events that celebrate the diversity of our City...

We've managed over the last three years to keep tax
(and fee!) increases in line with population growth + CPI, while opening a big new rec centre, meeting our provincial housing regulations, and investing in community partnerships that support arts, culture and sport. #NewWest is getting it done.

We had attempts this year by the ABC allies on our Council to bring a zero-percent austerity budget to #NewWest; a warning of what their plans are if they win a majority. We held them off, but if you want to keep #NewWest moving forward, we could use a little support: www.communityfirstnw.ca/events

This arose from a recent conversation re: If you want the Federal Gov't to subsidize your transportation, you better either burn oil to move, or be oil that needs moving.

As someone who was there, riding mountain bikes in the mid 1980s, IMBA did *a lot* of work to make cycling welcome in places previously preserved for hikers and equestrians. But they did it by talking to mountain bikers about their responsibilities freehub.com/articles/imb...

I kinda see e-scooters as the SUVs of the sidewalk. Being bigger & faster, users have responsibility for how they impact more vulnerable folks.

Reminds me of the 1980s when mountain bikes were fighting for right to trail space - We learned we had to earn it through self-policing and education.

If you know a youth who uses an e-scooter, or are a parent of one, we’d love to hear from you at this event! It’s easy to say “they’re unsafe - ban them” when the reality is more complex. How can we make them safer? How do we educate about them? Do we want heavy handed enforcement?

This is why #NewWest is holding a Forum on Thursday to talk openly about all of the above: what are the benefits of E-mobility, and how do we address both the real & perceived safety concerns with Gov’ts uncertain how to act?

When I talk to Seniors in #NewWest, this is the #1 public safety concern on their mind 😲. Attribute that to the “novel threat” idea, or to the legislative void that means most users are on sidewalks in urban areas, but seniors never stop calling on cities to *do something* about this hazard...

Some cities joined the Pilot Project and can adapt local Bylaws to allow E-scooters, BUT have limited to no enforcement resources and there is no concerted effort to educate the public about safe and legal use of the devices. Without that, it remains a wild west, and people are getting hurt...

The province has been dragging its feet on updating the Motor Vehicle Act on safe use and regulation of E-mobility devices. The initial 3-year limited “pilot project” has been extended for another 4 years. We can’t take 7 years to respond to basic safety issues...
