I mean he's a racist failson convinced of his own secret genius who pretends to care about social causes so long as they're useful

that is like just every rich industrialite alive today

It is the MOST realistic Disney villain ever written

It just means I really need to wow elsewhere, like with level and combat design. It's a tough pill to swallow to know there are things I just _can't_ fix.

Ultimately this means that complex geometry isn't really in the cards. Small bumps and flat ramps are all fine, but we won't see anything crazy. This is going to be a bit of a flatter experience, with more teleporters and elevators where ramps won't do.

Aaaaaaaaaaaand now apply_central_force() does not work but apply_impulse does? Fucking kill me this sucks ass.

Can't grey if you lose it all :'D

My hope is that over the next month or two I can finish a movement physics system that gets me back on track, that's more robust and tolerant of the weird shit this game can throw out.

When I hit that point, I hope we can make up for lost time with a firehose of real content.

I still want to minimize my physics engine's moving parts. No complex drag, oversteer, ackerman steering, or weird damping calculations. You will still be prevented from flipping over because shit ain't fun. I still want this to be bootlegger central.

I'm disappointed, but not beaten. Not yet.

I'm still quite proud of how far I got on spit, grit, and pain, but I'm also not stupid enough to cling to a bad idea when it prevents me from doing everything I want, and I want levels you can swerve and skid all over.

Unfortunately that means (ugh) some form of raycast suspension.

Incredibly demotivated but I know sunk cost fallacy when I see it...
November 25, 2025 at 12:21 AM
My biggest fear was getting lost in physics land, tinkering with bullshit like suspension, drag, countersteering, and all manner of gearhead nerd shit when I'm trying to make a movement system that can only loosely be described as a car.
November 25, 2025 at 12:15 AM
This, unfortunately, means I need to rip up the flooring and start to implement forces, counterforces, and all sorts of damping bullshit I did not want to touch.
