(Granted my overwhelming main reason is I’m a Source engine sucker and this is the closest I can get without being trapped in Valve’s ecosystem… and while working in a BSP format does have perf benefits, it does make maps blocky and larger Q3 maps tend to be at most ~3^3 km big w/ 1 unit = 1 in)

That is… a workaround

Considering Epic’s budget and how the high end users of Unreal could use it, I’m surprised it isn’t a thing

Yeah, if it works it works.

Also I’m sorry what do you MEAN Unreal lacks entity components

That’s NUTS, and means you have to set up a bunch of stuff to get things done

and yes, I know that John Carmack is a transphobic techbro, but at the very least the the community can be pretty queer friendly

It is GPL licensed however, but the engines are typically set up in a way that means any game code (as in, not customised engine code) can do w/e with licensing AFAIK

While it is *very* much set up for first person (though third person games and racing sims have been made in idTech engines), it comes with a command line tool for debugging, many SDKs have a barebones template to get started with... and my Source Engine poisoned noggin finds it familiar in a way

Notably, Epic actually develops games on Unreal while Unity and the Godot group *haven't*

as such, clearly the best choice is idtech
in this essay I will-

www.the303.org/tutorials/go... only places I’ve seen resources so far for this style is from this that archives old stuff, but idk how accurate it is and there seems to be a bunch of broken links.
