So while the Champions League still holds a massive advantage in prestige, history, and importance. You can easily argue that just making the Club World Cup gives a club a considerably larger financial advantage over its domestic rivals.

But the Club WC only allows 2 clubs per country, creating a massive financial advantage just for participating over all but one domestic rival.

Eg: Manchester City & Chelsea are in line for huge paydays.

Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United & Tottenham get nothing.

But because of how many teams qualify for the Champions League - often at least four in the top nations - winning doesn’t give you a huge financial advantage over domestic rivals.

If winning the UCL earns ~€100M, your club’s competitors may still have made ~€50-75M.

Clubs and fans would still much rather lift a Champions League trophy, as the prestige vastly outweighs the slight difference in prize money.

FIFA just announced the prize money for the Club World Cup and it’s $1 billion!

The winner could get upwards of $125M.

That’s more than the current Champions League winners, though not by a lot.

4️⃣ While we can’t excuse the players for a lack of intensity, the US Soccer Federation does them no favors.

🚫 4pm local start
🚫 no fans
🚫 70k capacity non-soccer stadium
🚫 narrower pitch than normal which plays against their strengths

When will we get a true home stadium?
March 21, 2025 at 6:30 PM
Their best option on the pitch last night was Pulisic but he spent half his game out wide, switching on and off with Weston McKennie, who is a good player but is miscast as a 10.

3️⃣ Reyna’s absence, and the lack of depth behind him, cause the #USMNT’s biggest problem - the lack of a creative playmaker.

Without Reyna the US lack a true number 10. Their attackers are more speed-based. They’re good in space, but they’re not good at creating space.
March 21, 2025 at 6:30 PM
At what point do we recognize that Reyna is the common denominator and assign him some of the blame, not for being injured but for why his last half dozen coaches all choose to leave him out?

Not everyone can be wrong.

2️⃣ Everyone keeps waiting for Gio Reyna to be the answer and play a major role, and after yesterday has been quick to blame Pochettino for not playing him.

But he’s now had multiple managers at both Dortmund and the US who don’t seem eager to put him on the pitch.

1️⃣ the #USMNT have improved their depth dramatically over the last five years, but not in certain key areas. They still lack depth in:

🔴 Striker
🔴 Goalkeeper
🔴 Fullback
🔴 Number 10/creative attacking midfielder
