a fantastic end to a brilliant trilogy of games. the writing is impeccable, and it's the first ace attorney with All Banger Cases (okay some of the characters in case 3 are... questionable... but that aside)

i dunno, as someone who loves the sweetly whimsical tone of the original, i like the more cynical tone of Tooie a lot. i love the way the world is interconnected, even if i'm not sure it avails itself of that quite enough in its design.

is there a game on this list that understands what makes a hard game engaging more? going for a p-rank is addictive and getting one is exhilarating. the designers understood what made wario land great and made it absolutely cook.

look, Famous Epic Gaming Quotes aside, this is just a genuinely great+fun arcade rail shooter with a surprisingly high skill ceiling. it absolutely oozes with this weird corny action movie charm. i think the game's aesthetic is cooler than people give it credit for

weird ass one, because i actually didn't like it as a kid! i was unfazed by the GameFAQs arguments over the Kiddie Baby Cartoon Graphics, but i really just did not care for the slow sailing or the lack of dungeons...

it's frenetic, funny and weird. the DS was the first handheld i owned that was totally my own, and i remember just staying up late under the covers 100%ing it - the last "formative childhood game" on here
also, and i cannot stress this enough: it gave us Ashley

god, this game hit at exactly the right age of my life as a sega-curious nintendo edgy kid. something about its combination of ... edginess to the aesthetics? weirdly ambitious storytelling? i dunno, it just hit absolutely right when it came out

there are other great Mario RPGs, but there's none more lively, more absolutely rich with character, more full of surprises, with a world that feels more enchanting than this one. favorite RPG of all time, easily. strong contender for favorite game, even

gen 2 sucks. the level curve is godawful, kanto is a half-finished mess, you can't catch any of the new cool pokemon until the very end,

it was SO hard picking between The Crystal Shards and this one, but Kirby's Adventure is one of the first games i ever played and is super formative; it won out. it's mechanically solid for an NES game and beautiful. the Rainbow Resort music makes me cry (i'm a huge baby)
