The cold sore virus reshapes the human genome’s architecture, rearranging its shape in three-dimensional space so that HSV-1 can access host genes most useful for its ability to reproduce. Read full paper led by @piacosma.bsky.social in Nature Communications:
Herpes simplex virus type 1 reshapes host chromatin architecture via transcription machinery hijacking - Nature Communications
Here, the authors show how HSV-1 rewires the host cell’s chromatin architecture during lytic infection by hijacking transcription machinery and forming contacts between viral and host genomes.

Human Body Single-Cell Atlas of 3D Genome Organization and DNA Methylation
Higher-order chromatin structure and DNA methylation are critical for gene regulation, but how these vary across the human body remains unclear. We performed multi-omic profiling of 3D genome structur...

Inside the nucleus, lncRNAs act as molecular architects, shaping gene expression and chromatin landscapes. But tracking them in action? That's the tricky part! Cutting edge imaging techniques are revealing how RNAs like Xist spread and silence genes, reshaping our understanding of epigenetics!

3/ We developed a new approach to map the chromatin accessibility data to primary atlases using cisTopics loadings. We find that organoid cells recapitulate primary counterparts not only on transcriptomic, but also on chromatin accessibility level!

We thus propose that mitotic chromosome shape is dictated by Condensin-driven extrusion of long and overlapping loops up to a density set by chromatin self-repulsion.
