We hired hundreds of people across 4 new communities to help us protect imperiled, isolated patches of habitat for Ivohiboro's endangered and unique lemurs, as well as countless other species.

These efforts would not have been possible without our partners at MICET, who oversaw the implementation.

From the #GreatPlains pictured above to the #PalousePrairie of the inland Northwest to the forests of #Madagascar. Today, we hope you'll join us in recognizing and celebrating the numerous, diverse communities who have called this continent (and others) home since time immemorial.

We'll clean the seeds and grow a portion of them out to mature plants, returning them and the remainder of the seeds to South Dakota to be planted. Every single seed and plant will make it possible for others to grow, helping biodiversity and people thrive in the Plains.

Surprisingly, the main barrier to prairie restoration in the Great Plains isn't land availability - there's plenty of that. Instead, access to native seeds is rare, meaning anyone who wants to restore prairie is limited by low seed supplies.

The fire reduction has increased the landscape's water retention, allowing communities to 3x rice production as more H2O is available. Natural regeneration is underway alongside our Foxhole Forest restoration work too, meaning Ivohiboro and its biodiversity can continue to recover & thrive!
