Interesting. Makes sense. I always just spiked my plants about halfway through flower to encourage a higher density of trichs. Of course, that is using stress to induce the reaction which is touchy. Your way is more friendly. I'll have to research it, see if there's quantitative data.

I had never smelled the rubbery until this year. My neighbors Dosi Cookies had the scent. It was unusual to my nose.
